The Woman's Club of Alpine met on March 1st in the West Texas National Bank Community Room. Guest speaker Emma Downing, one of Alpine's HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership) ambassadors for 2011, shared her experience. Each year the WCA provides the HOBY scholarship to a sophomore student(s) selected by Alpine High School staff based on his/her leadership abilities, academic achievements and extracurricular involvement. "Season of Giving..."
Christmas is in the air. The GFWC Woman’s Club of Alpine met to discuss the final plans for Mountain Country Christmas which will be Friday, December 2 from 2:00-8:00 and Saturday, December 3 from 8:30-6:00 in the Alpine Civic Center. There will be a full house with new and returning vendors. The club members voted to donate $100 each to the Brown and Blue Santas, the Green Elf, and the Fire Department Santa. Members brought items to donate to the Food Pantry. Giving Back to Our Community
ALPINE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTThe Woman's Club of Alpine (WCA) presented a $500 donation to the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department. Proceeds from the club's annual GO TEXAN Spring Fundraiser made the donation possible. WCA hosts several fundraisers through the year including the upcoming Balloon Bash coffee and pastry sale and the Mountain Country Christmas Bazaar. VERIZON AND FAMILY CRISIS CENTER SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE
The Woman's Club of Alpine donated over $450 in school supplies in support of Russell Cellular Verizon Wireless school supply drive benefiting the Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend. The Family Crisis Center helps those who need a safe place because of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. The center services Brewster, Jeff Davis, Presidio, Pecos and Terrell counties.
